While helping at Boundary County Fair this past week, I had the opportunity to see a new set of leaders take their place in the history of the Bonners Ferry FFA Chapter. I returned, as the 2018 Boundary County Fair King, to crown the 2019 Fair Royalty. Before that ceremony, however, a ceremony much more dear to my heart was performed in the Indoor Arena. I watched on as my fellow FFA members, but more personally, my friends, called the roll of officers, and took their stations respectively.
I have had the opportunity to mentor and work with this team in various capacities within the FFA before, but nothing like this had ever brought so much emotion flooding back. I recall when I stood where they stood and proclaimed the same words: "To practice brotherhood, honor agricultural opportunities and responsibilities, and strive to develop those qualities of leadership which an FFA member should possess." My time in the Blue Corduroy is over, but the chapter is never stronger. My advice, my encouragement, and my challenge to those who lead the Bonners Ferry FFA chapter this year, AND to those who participate in it, is to BE THE FUTURE. Be the person you want to be. Be the mentor or leader, friend or helper, participant or competitor, that YOU want to be. You are the future, but more importantly, the present, of the FFA. So, believe in your future! Make the future as bright as your dreams, solid as your reality, and leave a legacy that will "hold true." This is your era, so be the innovators, creators, and discoverers. Be your part in the "inspiring task" of promoting agriculture and the values of the FFA. BE THE FUTURE. Caleb Petersen 2018-19 Vice President |
